50% OF 2016 BUDGET UNUSED-Finance Minister, Winston Jordan
Finance Minister, Winston Jordan has confirmed that, less than 50% of the 2016 National Budget has thus far been spent.
Describing the scenario as “unfavourable”, Jordan explained that Government’s continuous battle with existing items has hindered the smooth functioning of many agencies.
It is the Minister’s hope that a large sum from the 2016 Budget, will not have to be returned to the state purse, as more can be done to boost the economy.
Jordon opined, that some agencies have “become relaxed and lackadaisical in getting things done, and were surprised by the early budget and unable to get their footing.”
The 2017 National Budget is set to be tabled in the National Assembly in early December.
