Continuous monitoring of weather patterns and the opening of the Maduni sluice has ensured a stable level of water in the East Demerara water conservancy.
This is according to agriculture minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, who visited the site yesterday, to inspect the operations. The minister noted that some 80 percent of water on the land is expected to recede by tonight, due to a decrease in rainfall.
He however added that focus will be shifted to the Mahaica/ Mahaicony/ Abary area, as there is still much water accumulation there.
The agriculture minister said despite some losses, the situation could have been worse, had it not been for continuous monitoring and drainage works by the ministry.
