Amerindian Heritage Month annual sports and family fun day set for this weekend

The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs’ Sports and Family fun day this coming weekend is expected to attract a large gathering with close to 400 sports men and women set to participate. The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the GNS Ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Golden Jaguars lose to Soca Warriors

Guyana’s Golden Jaguars suffered their first loss of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Qualifying competition in their final Stage Two game, going down to Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors at the Hasely Crawford Stadium 2-0 last evening. The under strength Guyana team without six of their starters playing against T&T full strength side still managed to put up some stiff resistance as they kept the home team at bay for the most part.

Guyana defeats India 2-1 in friendly match

With a spectacular solo effort from Walter ‘Boyd’ Moore in the 62 minute of the game was what  separated Guyana’s ‘Golden Jaguars’ from the India National Team in their clash last evening at the national stadium.The Guyanese scored a 2-1 win against the Indians, which ushered in a victorious return at the helm for Technical Director, Jamal Shabazz, a result that was shared also with Manager, Mark Xavier.

Golden Jags to face off against India National Team

The Indian National Team has arrived in Guyana ahead of their international friendly with Guyana on Wednesday. The squad which will stay at the princess International Hotel arrived from Trinidad this morning where they played their first Caribbean match on tour. Armando Colaso, coach of the team stated that coming off the heels of their 3-0 Trinidadian defeat, the players are eager to chalk up a win. Coach Colaso further stated that they will use the first day to acclimatize themselves with stretches while the final session tomorrow night will be under lights.

Bakewell throws support behind Golden Jaguars

AS Guyana’s senior national football team prepare for their return leg of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Barbados, Roti Hut, operated and owned by the Bakewell Group of Companies, has thrown their weight behind the team, starting with a half a million dollars contribution. The company yesterday at a simple ceremony at Roti Hut’s Albert Street Georgetown location, handed over the cheque to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) acting President Franklin Wilson, who spoke profoundly of how important the contribution is to the national team as they make their quest to the FIFA World Cup, hosted in Brazil in 2014.

Franklin Wilson to head GFF

Guyana football federation vice president Franklin Wilson will now head the football body following President Collin Klass' suspension from football by the world governing body fifa.

Speaking to NCN sport this morning Mr. Klass says he will step aside and let Mr. Wilson run but he will not be stepping down from his post.

“There will be no stepping down I have no intentions of stepping down, but what I will do is step aside pending these investigations, I will not be sending in any letter of resignation” 

The GFF head also stated that he is innocent as it relates to the collection of some US$40,000  in a vote scandal

ZURICH, Switzerland (Reuters) – Guyana Football Federation (GFF) president Colin Klass became the second high-ranking official, and the fourth in all, to be banned for their part in a bribery scandal when world soccer’s ruling body FIFA suspended him yesterday for 26 months.

Prime Minister gives kudos to GT&T for innovative football tournament

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds gave kudos to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) company and best wishes to the female football teams from Georgetown and Lethem, Region Nine that went head to head in the finals of the first ever fastball tournament .
The all-encompassing tournament, kicked off at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence with a double header last evening.
