Suriname’s preparations for the hosting of the 2011 Inter Guiana games are moving apace as the event is set to begin on October 20. This is according to Guyana’s Sport Director, Neil Kumar after attending a meeting with sport representatives of the three guiana’s.
The meeting at Paramaribo Suriname which was attended by Neil Kumar and Sport Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony discussed details of Guyana’s participation.
During an interview with the sport director on Thursday, he noted that he is impressed with Suriname’s initial preparations leading up to the October event.
“I consider that we had a highly successful meeting in Paramaribo to discuss the final arrangements for Guyana’s participation at the 2011 Inter-Guiana games. Suriname seems to be on top of things they are rearing and ready to go at all six disciplines.”
The sport director also noted that systems are already being put into place to select the best Guyanese contingent to represent the country.
“Back home we have given the entire national association deadline to provide the names and the passports for Guyana team participation, we are also in the process of getting all the athletes and coaches vaccinated so I think that we are preparing nicely for Guyana’s participation.”
This year’s Inter-Guiana Games will be contested in Suriname among French Guiana, Guyana and host Suriname from October 20 through October 24.
The Guyanese contingent is expected to leave on October 19. It will feature basketball, cycling, chess, volleyball, athletics and swimming.
