Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud says he welcomes the announcement by Guyana Goldfields Incorporated on the feasibility of its Aurora gold property to develop a large mine to produce in excess of three million ounces of gold.

He views this recent development as a positive move towards ensuring that Guyana remains a significant gold producer, using the latest, safest and green technology.

Persaud said he regretted that the feasibility study and mining plan saw a shift from the start-up of mining operations from 2014 to the first quarter of 2015.

The environment minister is urging that company to examine ways to commence operation in 2014.
