Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo retains Carib Soca Monarch title
Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo retained the Carib Soca title with his splendid performance of “Fireworks” at the National Park early Sunday morning.
During the event, various artistes used fireworks as part of their on stage performance but it wasn’t until Jumo took the stage as the 18th competitor that the fireworks really sparked.
With dancers behind him, a fireworks filled-sky and a glowing crowd cheering him on, it came as no surprise when the judges announced that Primo will retain his Soca Monarch crown.
In second place is local comedian and actor Kwasi “Ace” Edmondson with his song “Same Thing”. He also captured the best newcomer prize.
Kwesi Ace’s song and performance mirrored the on-stage style of Trinidadian Bunjie Garlin. Three time soca monarch, Adrian Dutchin gave an energetic performance as he took to the stage with his song ‘Jook’.
The audience seemed thrilled by the performance by many of the other artistes. The Carib Soca Monarch is an annual activity to commemorate Mashramani celebrations.
