The first brand of aromatic rice, has been launched at the Guyana shop, Robb and Alexander streets, Georgetown.

Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy says the aromatic variety was developed at the Burma rice research station in region five.

Dr. Ramsammy added that the aromatic rice should carry a higher price, which would benefit rice farmers.

The agriculture ministry is looking to produce a larger quantity and have it packaged for export purposes.

The limited brand is being sold at an introductory cost of 260 dollars per one kg packet at the Guyana shop. It will be distributed countrywide early in the new year.
